NOT a WW2 photo of a Jewish girl

The photo in the centre has been shared all over the internet countless times with the suggestion that it is a wartime picture of a Jewish girl.
Analysing historical images is what I do as a job, I’ve seen a huge amount of WW2 photos and I knew that this was not one of them.
However as always I want to prove this and to do that I need to track down the origin of the picture.
Even when it is quite obvious to you, the best way to stop other people from believing it is real is by confronting them with cold hard facts.

In this case it wasn’t very difficult and it didn’t take me long to find the original photo.
The picture was taken by photographer Terry Moran during a performance of the play ‘Terezin, Children of the Holocaust’ at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2011.

You can read more about the play here;

It may be a compliment to the photographer that people think his photo is an actual WW2 photo but Mr. Moran is of course not happy about it being shared as such.
Besides the simple fact that he owns the copyright to the picture it is also very disturbing to see the picture used in this way, especially when it turns up on history related websites.
Mr. Moran has himself tried to stop people from using his picture in this way as well.

If you want to show people images of this dreadful part of our history you do not have to look far to find actual wartime photos.

Picture found online, used for (re-)educational purposes only.
I do not own the copyrights to this picture, I only share it here for educational purposes to try and make sure the real story behind it becomes known and people will stop spreading false information.

Mr. Moran owns the copyright, he has given me permission to use the photo.
If you want to use his picture, please contact him directly.
